Aaron Burr New York Politician

Aaron Burr had a complicated history. He fought in the American Revolution, accompanying Benedict Arnold in his failed attack on Canada. He practiced law in New York City after leaving the Continental Army in 1779, served as a New York senator, and was the third vice president of the United States, almost stealing the election from Thomas Jefferson.
Burr killed Alexander Hamilton in a duel at Weehawken, New Jersey in 1804.
In 1805, he traveled west beyond the Allegheny Mountains and tried to set up a new empire on Spanish lands. He was arrested in 1807 and charged with treason the following year. Despite Jefferson pressing for a conviction, Burr was acquitted of all charges.
